Advantages of the MEM Technology

  • The fibres are protected within the cartridge (no mechanical load, no chance of installation damage or operator error).
  • Each cartridge has 6 m² of filtration area very high packing fraction and therefore minimum space and area requirements.
  • It safely removes up to 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.7% of virus due to the small pore size of nominal 0,02 µm. No odour or disinfection products will occur.
  • No disinfective by-products or odour emissions arise with MEM.
  • The physical separation of sediments as well as bacteria and virus is safely done in a process with one and the same equipment.
  • The filtration modules have a high life expectancy (up to 10 years, depending on the degree of utilization). They are cheap and easily replaceable.
  • The membrane fibres are permanently hydrophilic, meaning they are immediately functional when they come into contact with water, drying does not damage the membrane.
  • Special additives in the PE membrane prevent the growth of micro-organisms, suppression 99.97% according to Japanese Standard JIS Z 2801.
  • The membrane is resistant to acid, alkaline and chlorine-containing detergents
  • Back-flushing with up to 3 bar.
  • Have been in use for 10 years.
  • Diffuser = air bubbles = cleaning, air is forced between the fibres, jet effect, swirling.
  • Continuous ventilation of the membrane is not required. Air is efficiently used by the cartridge to clean the membrane and thereby saving energy.
  • The protection of the membranes by the cartrige raises the chemical cleaning effect during the maintenance without negative influence to the biology by dilution.

AQUALOOP – Water quality

Investigations at the wastewater treatment plant in Salzburg, Austria have shown that the bacteriological limits stipulated by the Drinking Water Guideline were met, even with heavily contaminated water.

The other parameters of the relevant drinking water guidelines need to be checked in order to ascertain whether the treated water meets drinking water quality.

The water is generally suitable to be used as processed water in the house and for irrigation purposes.

In addition to the hygiene requirements AQUALOOP underruns:

..... In countries like Canada, USA and Japan, where a minimum chlorine content (total chlorine residual > = 0.5 mg/l up to 1 mg / l / of > = 0.5 mg/l up to 1 mg/l) is required for treated drinking water, this can be implemented in AQUALOOP via a separate dosing system or in the form of a tablet.

Start and commissioning

MEM cartridges are tested and are moistened in their delivered state. They may be used for filtration without any preliminary treatment. The membranes may alter formation in the start-up phase but this usually normalizes quickly. The membranes have hydrophilic properties, i.e. the fibres can also be easily reused even after drying out.

Storage conditions

New cartridges should be stored in the original packaging until the final installation. The following storage conditions apply:

  • Store the cartridges inside out of direct sun.
  • Store the cartridges between 10 - 30 °C.
  • Store the cartridges with a relative humidity below 70%

Cleaning the cartridge

Dirty cartridges are chemically cleaned and rinsed and then stored to dry (see storage conditions). If necessary, the membrane can be manually cleaned with chemicals while it is still installed within the system. For this operation refer to the instruction manual.
